Business Twenty (B20) Saudi Arabia

January 12 @ 8:00 am - November 23 @ 5:00 pm

About B20 – B20 Background

The Business Twenty (B20) is the official G20 dialogue with the business community. As the voice of the private sector to the G20, it represents the global business community across all G20 member states and all economic sectors. Formed in 2010, it is the first engagement group of the G20.

The B20 supports the G20 through specific policy recommendations, the consolidated representation of business interests and economic expertise. It also fosters dialogue between the public and private sector.

Analogous to the G20, the B20 does not have a permanent secretariat and is an informal forum rather than an organization. Its summits are held annually, usually before the respective G20 summits.

B20 Members and Taskforces

B20 members are primarily business representatives who typically come from the G20 countries and selected invited countries or international organizations.

The core element of the B20 is the development of consensus-based policy recommendations. The process involves the creation of taskforces, each of which focuses on an overarching topic that is relevant for businesses and policy-makers alike. Although it varies according to host-country requirements, each taskforce consists of about 100 business representatives from multi-national corporations, state-owned enterprises, SMEs, business associations and chambers of commerce.

Over the course of the B20 cycle, each taskforce develops a policy paper with specific suggestions and implementable actions for the G20. These policy proposals are officially handed over to the G20 leaders at the annual B20 summit.
