Members of the Board of Directors of AACCI met in Canberra on 4 and 5 February 2009 in a meeting designed as an introduction to the Chamber for the newly appointed Directors (Hon Kim Chance, MLC, Peter Deacon and James Harb). Discussion focused on current and future challenges of the Chamber and on ways in which the Chamber can continue to offer its members a package of services that is relevant to members’ needs, and serves their interests effectively.
Reports were received from the WA Chapter Chair, Mr Edmund Damouni, on the recent AACCI-led WA Trade Mission to the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar; National Chairman Ray Najar and AACCI CEO Robert Newton on their attendance at meetings in Beirut in January of the General Union of Arab Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, and on their visits to Syria, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Iraq.
On the afternoon of 4 February the Board of AACCI met with the Council of Arab Ambassadors to discuss matters of mutual interest.
The two-hour meeting served to facilitate a frank discussion in which was discussed a number of practical proposals for future cooperation between the Chamber and the Arab Ambassadors in Canberra. |
| The meeting took place in a highly constructive atmosphere. The Chairman of AACCI, Ray Najar, remarked that he hoped this would be the first of a regular series of consultative meetings with the Arab Ambassadors. |
